Network outage planned for October 31
Normal Operating Conditions

October 30, 2013

In order to address the network instability over the past two weeks, the entire Cedarville network (CedarNet) will be shut down for necessary maintenance on Thursday, October 31 starting at 5 a.m.

How Does This Affect Me?

During the planned network outage, the following services will be unavailable both on and off campus:

  •  CedarInfo transactions
  • CedarNet software
  • Google Services (access to University email, calendar and Google drive, etc.)
  • Internet (including University homepages)
  • Moodle
  • Network drives (H, J, S, T, etc.)
  • Network printers (including CedarPrint)
  • Redwood screens and transactions (staff only)
  • Techcart access
  • VoIP phones (faculty and staff)
  • WebAdvisor
  • Wireless (wi-fi, cu-secure, cu-unsecure, etc.)
  • Any other networked device or server not listed

When Can I Use the Network Again?

If everything goes as planned, we expect the network will be back up in time for the start of the workday on Thursday and 8 a.m classes. In the unlikely case that network connectivity is not restored by 8 a.m., please visit this site for updates.

What Should I Do in Preparation?

We recommend that you shut your CedarNet computer down on Wednesday when you are finished for the day. If you forget to shut it down, please shut it down and restart it in the morning once the network becomes available.

What Caused the Network Problems?

Information Technology upgraded the core switch (the backbone of the network) over fall break. The resulting network instability has been traced to errors in our vendor’s software and not to any configurations handled by Information Technology. We are performing network maintenance upon the vendor’s recommendation.

What if I Have Questions or Concerns?
